Climatic and Soil Requirements for Growing Tuberose/Rajnigandha

Grows well in an open sunny location, away from shade of trees. In very sunny, hot areas light shade is also fineIt requires warm and humid climate with temperature range from 20-35C although flowering is profuse under mild climateTropical conditions with a temperature range of 28 to 30C are most suitable for its cultivationTemperature above 40C adversely affects the length of spike and quality of flowers. Very low temperature and frost damage the plants and flowersThe crop should be protected from strong winds and therefore, a place protected from strong winds is preferableCrop flower profusely throughout the year, if the climate is mild and free from extremes of high and low temperatures

Tuberose/Rajnigandha Varieties

There are 2 types of Tuberose/Rajnigandha varieties

Single Type Varieties: They bear pure white flowers with one row/whorl of corolla segment. Flowers of single type are highly scented and are commonly used for extraction of essential oil, loose flowers, making garland etc. Single varieties are more fragrant than double type and contain 0.08 to 0.11 percent concrete which is used in high grade perfumes.Double Type Varieties: They bear flowers having more than three rows of corolla segments on straight spikes. Double varieties are used as cut flowers, garden display and interior decoration. Flower color is white and also tinged with pinkish red.

How To Germinate: 1) Prepare the soil using Kraft Seeds manure and potting mix (1:1) to improve fertility. 2) Plant the bulbs in a well-drained, sunny pot at a depth that is 2-3 times the height of the bulb. 3) Water the bulbs well after planting and use fertilizer. 4) Mulch the soil around the bulbs with grass, chopped leaves to protect them from frost. 5) Water the soil and allow to germinate in 2-3 weeks.
Sowing Season: Rajnigandha bulbs can be planted at any time of the year, the blooming season is from May to July. Once the bulbs have bloomed, allow the foliage to die back naturally before removing it.
